Never-does-his-real-job Farage claims to have skipped the budget because otherwise he'd have to assault someone for taking his preferred seat
Overall this is of course not the most important part of yesterday’s budget, but it is kind of weird and disturbing.
Farage, who already basically fails to turn up to Parliament remotely often enough to do his actual job, even skipped the budget reveal. Why? Because the little baby was scared someone would take ‘his’ seat and he’d have to punch them:
Farage said he had decided to give parliament a “wide berth” as he was concerned he would get into a fight because another MP had removed a green paper slip saving him a seat. He said this situation had turned physical on a previous occasion.
“At the state opening of parliament, I got involved in, I didn’t want to, but I got involved in a physical altercation with an MP in the chamber,” he said.
I already think the shouting and braying MPs do in Parliament seems very childish and unserious - I’m curious if it’s the same in every country - but this ‘I might have to assault you if you do something I decided I don’t like’ is, at best, very playground behaviour.
I don’t want a Prime Minister who has such a delicate snowflake temperament that if someone might sit where he wants to the only way he can stop himself committing violence - a crime - is by not turning up. Imagine him at a negotiating table! Good job he’s comfortable with sycophantically cosying up to any given anti-British foreign autocrat.
Perhaps it was even actually a deliberate ploy to give him and excuse to skip out and, once again, eat oysters and drink wine with his illegal donors or similar. If not it was incompetence.
The reason his oh so important green slip was removed was because he filled it out wrongly so, just like any other incorrectly filled out slip, it was removed.
A House of Commons spokesperson said: “There are clear and long-established arrangements for members to reserve their own seats in the chamber using prayer cards displaying a valid date stamp. Today, a prayer card placed on a seat did not display a valid date stamp and was removed in line with the usual chamber protocol”
No doubt he also complains to his usual 5* hotels paid for by weird foreign donors if they didn’t magically guess he wanted a reservation.
