Public uproar over plans that might disturb Dobby's grave

· Braindump

Recently a plan to lay £430 million pounds worth of electricity cable near Freshwater West beach in Pembrokeshire had to be abandoned due to public demand.

Why? Because it would travel through Dobby’s grave.

A wooden cross with the name Dobby marks a memorial site adorned with various stones, small objects, and trinkets on a sandy, grassy beach.

Sure, the dead should generally not be disturbed out of respect. However in this case the “dead” is a fictional character from Harry Potter. This one:

Dobby, a small creature with large ears and green eyes is holding an orange leaf while wearing a simple beige tunic.

Now they are planning to dig through some space that is known to contain remains from the Bronze Age, which is of course a real thing.

The grave site has been under threat before, after it was noted that it’s on an “environmentally senstive” beach. It attracts an undue amount of visitors who tend to leave tokens of respect such as socks, trinkets and painted pebbles, all of which “could enter the marine environment and food chain and put wildlife at risk.”. In the end, plans to relocate it were similarly defeated.
