Results of the 2024 UK General Election under different voting systems

Today’s Guardian has an interesting graphic simulating what the results of the 2024 UK general election might have been under various different proportional-representation influenced voting systems.

Of course if a new voting system was brought in, then people’s voting behaviour might change - but it’s an interesting look nonetheless. The results do basically seem a much better reflection of what I believe the current vibes of the country are than the result that our existing FPTP one produced.

Sure, I really might not like the parts of the potential results in some cases (and really like them in others). But voting systems must not be designed based on what outcome you want, so I’m glad to see that the majority of MPs - including the majority of Labour MPs,which is the group who most benefitted from the limitations of our system last time - apparently do support this kind of change.
